Dulse Furikake Seasoning
Furikake is a Japanese seasoning typically made from a mix of dried seaweed, sesame seeds, salt, sugar, and sometimes dried fish or other umami-rich ingredients. It’s sprinkled over rice, vegetables, snacks, and seafood to add a savory, nutty, and slightly salty flavor. Furikake is versatile, easy to use, and adds a burst of flavor and texture to everyday dishes (all 3 co-founders of Winter Waters always have a furikake blend in our kitchen cabinets that we use on everything!).
This blend combines the rich umami of dulse and nori with the nuttiness of sesame seeds, creating a flavorful topping for a variety of dishes, including sweet treats, including these Dulse Crispies.
Dulse Furikake Recipe
Yield: Approximately 1/3 cup
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons sesame seeds (white or black)
1 tablespoon dulse flakes

Instructions:
Toast sesame seeds: In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the sesame seeds until golden and aromatic, about 2–3 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning.
Combine ingredients: In a bowl, mix the toasted sesame seeds, dulse flakes, nori flakes, sea salt, sugar, and shiitake mushroom powder (if using).
Store: Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and store in a cool, dry place. It can be kept for up to a month.
Serve: Sprinkle over rice, popcorn, vegetables, or use as a seasoning for various dishes.
