Dulse Crispies by Ippai PDX
This recipe was created by Chef Jane of Ippai PDX for our Cannon Beach event at Basalt Studio.
Inspired by Oregon’s coastal flavors, these treats combine the chewy sweetness of classic Rice Krispies with the briny, umami punch of dulse furikake. Crafted with care, a touch of soy sauce, and finished with extra furikake on top, each bite is a salty sweet bite of the coast. Created in by Chef Jane of Ippai PDX these treats carry the same heart and care that define Ippai’s approach to Japanese home cooking. After years in Portland kitchens and leading the culinary program at Wafu, Chef Jane wanted to recreate the seasonal, vegetable-driven comfort foods of her childhood and began as a small stand at the Hollywood Farmers Market in 2013, serving Japanese curry and chirashi veggie bowls, and has grown to pop-up Kaiseki dinners and monthly casual dinners at Milk Glass Mrkt, all highlighting the best of Pacific Northwest food production.
The name “Ippai”—meaning “full” in Japanese—captures the warmth, comfort, and happiness of her mother’s kitchen. These dulse Rice Crispy treats are a sweet and savory reflection of that same spirit: a little taste of home, the coast, and Chef Jane’s love for sharing the bounty of Oregon.

Dulse Crispies Recipe
Ingredients:
-4 tablespoons butter
-10 Oz bag of mini marshmallows (1 bag)
-6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
-1 tablespoon soy sauce
-1/4 cup plus 1-2 tablespoons dulse furikake (recipe here) or buy from Jacobsen Sea Salt!
Instructions:
Prepare pan: Line a square baking pan (like one used for brownies) with parchment paper. A standard casserole dish works too, though your treats will be shorter.
Melt butter: In a medium saucepan over low to medium heat, melt the butter.
Add marshmallows: Stir in the mini marshmallows, continuously stirring with a spatula until fully melted and smooth. Be careful not to burn the mixture.
Flavor: Remove the pot from heat and stir in the soy sauce.
Add cereal & furikake: Immediately fold in the Rice Krispie cereal and 1/4 cup of the furikake until evenly coated.
Transfer to pan: Pour the mixture into your prepared pan, pressing it evenly to the edges.
Top with furikake: Sprinkle the remaining 1–2 tablespoons of furikake over the top.
Cool & serve: Allow the treats to cool completely, then cut into squares.
ENJOY!!!
