Winter Waters is taking over Newport, Oregon with public events over the weekend of February 6-8, 2026. Huge thank you to Discover Newport for your support.

Newport holds a special place in the hearts of Winter Waters co-founders Rachelle, Alanna, and Kristen. We’ve hosted events in this coastal town since year 1 of Winter Waters, and we’re excited to continue to grow the series here!

Events Throughout the Weekend:

Friday, February 6, 2026 - Women of the Water Regional Conference in partnership with Seafood & Gender Equality. During this one-day conference, we will explore the values of research, community, collaboration, and celebration while bringing together the current and future generations of leaders in aquaculture. Learn more and apply for an invite: HERE.

Friday, February 6, 2026 - Marine Reserve Trivia - The Wilds Taphouse & BBQ. Did you know that Oregon has 5 marine reserves? Come learn about Oregon’s marine reserves, areas of no harvest that serve as living laboratories for our nearshore environment. More info HERE.

Saturday, February 7, 2026 - The Blue Line — A Coastal Field Trip. Join us for a city-wide, full-day, self-guided journey through Newport’s blue economy. Each stop will introduce you to the people, places, and living systems that make up the coastal community of Newport, Oregon. Educational experiences include a tour of a sea urchin ranching and seaweed farm, and an open house highlighting local purveyors at Central Coast Food Web, pop-up broth bar (with savory fish bone broths), part of Local Ocean’s 100% Fish Program, and a Dock Walk with Oregon Sea Grant. The Oregon Coast Aquarium will open up a classroom with 3 stations highlighting the OCA dive program, Oregon’s marine reserves, and the Oregon Kelp Alliance. Hatfield Marine Science Center will host a hands-on demonstration of oyster filtration and husbandry. Additionally, the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center will host a “Dockside Dialogues” session with fishermen and participants will have free access to the Oregon’s Beautiful and Wild Fisheries exhibit, Tickets available HERE.

Sunday, February 8, 2026 - Local Ocean’s Seafare Brunch. The culinary team at Local Ocean Seafoods is putting together an extra special menu highlighting local seaweed and sustainable seafood. Learn more and book a reservation HERE.

The menu features Uni Deviled Egg with smoked oyster, roasted squash, and crème fraîche, Pink Shrimp Chilaquiles with medium-fried egg and cilantro-avocado crema, Dungeness Crab Benedict with fried Yukon potatoes, and Elderflower Panna Cotta with poached rhubarb and mint.

Newport is the place to be if you want to learn about sustainable seafood fisheries, aquaculture, sea life, and conservation. Plus, there’s incredible food in Newport!

If you’re traveling to Newport from out of town, we recommend coming out Friday, February 6th, so you can join us for the Marine Reserves Trivia or to make sure you get here with plenty of time to participate in The Blue Line on Saturday morning, February 7th.
